Publication Services
The Publication Services Department of the Science Operator is responsible for the production of the following authoritative series of publications that summarize the scientific and/or technical accomplishments of each cruise.
Scientific Prospectus: A precruise plan, based on JOIDES panel recommendations on site priorities, is published two to three months before each cruise.
Preliminary Report: A summary of the shipboard scientific results and technical operations is issued two to three months after each cruise.
The Proceedings of the Ocean Drilling Program is a two-part publication series that is produced for each leg. It contains a thorough record of the cruise objectives and summarizes the cruise and postcruise scientific results.
Initial Reports volume: A detailed summary the scientific and engineering results from each leg including visual core descriptions, core photographs, and other related data. This volume is published one year postcruise.
Scientific Results volume: A series of peer-reviewed papers that describe the results of shore-based studies related to a leg. Publication of the volume contents begins after the first paper is accepted and is complected four years postcruise.
The Citation List includes all publications that we are aware of related to each leg. To notify us of additional publications, please e-mail PubCrd@iodp.tamu.edu.
Details of ODP's Publications Policy, and the responsibilities of participants regarding publication of scientific data, are presented in the Sample Distribution, Data Distribution, and Publications Policy.
